My new rifle.
Went to a gun show and found this little black thing. I'm an Ak guy and this is my first black rifle :bear_tongue:. took it to the range and the best i could manage was 3 inch groups at 100 yards. The peep sight is also new thing to me, still trying to figure them out. Any way, so far got about 150 rounds through it.
I traded my sp101 and 300 bones for it. The rifle ( it's a DPMS, not sure what model) was bran new in the case and came with two mags. http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...3/SDC10004.jpg |
Re: My new rifle.
Would you give more info on the gun? What's the barrel markings on the upper side (should say something about the rifling twist)? On the side does it say .223, or 5.56, or both? Would you take a picture of the top of the BCG (Bolt Carrier Group)? -Thanks.
I think 3" groups at 100 yards with open sights is great, and really good for your first time trying to use the sights. Congrats on your purchase. |

clean your boots

Re: My new rifle.
Fine piece...probably 1:9 twist (optimum)...what brand ammo?...3 MOA is not bad for a first time. Maybe a nice optic (scope or red dot) after you have learned the sights...And maybe try some different ammo for better accuracy. The rifle should be capable of 1 MOA or less with the shooter doing their part.
And get plenty of ammo and mags... |

Re: My new rifle.
The barrel got 223 and 5.56 1x9 stamped on it. I'll take more pics of the gun when I'm done working. Helping my friend at the hog farm today ( boy does that suck ass ).
P.S. Would 223 be a good round to put down 500 pound gilt? We have to kill one today and I was thinking that 223 would be batter then a sledgehammer. Maybe give me suggestion on what ammo to use. P.S.S. My boots are fine, they are my farm shoes. All the stains on them is blood from castrating the piglets, I can't wash that off. |
Re: My new rifle.
oh ok, the 1x9 means that is the twist of the barrel so the max you'd probably want to use is 68 grain... I've got the same barrel, I usually use 55 grain for punching holes because it tends to be cheaper... Your going to love you rifle.
As a suggestion, get yourself a BORE SNAKE, these things are absolutely bitchen for cleaning... http://www.hoppes.com/products/ca_boresnakes.html |

PM me if you want the video. |
Re: My new rifle.
I wouldn't mind seeing that vid- I Plan on taking a few Feral Hogs w/ my AR this year.. I was figuring they'd have to be headshots.

My brother used CCI Stingers out of a 22 rifle with good effect when he butchered his hogs...the bullets would fragment and bounce around inside the skull cavity--scrambling the brains--needless to say, they dropped in their tracks. |

Re: My new rifle.
Great. Thanks for the pics. They look like M4 feedramps and the BCG looks like the gas key is staked pretty well (maybe just a little light).
You look to have a great gun on your hands. |
Re: My new rifle.
Thanks guys.
gopher29, my buddy and I had lunch with your avatar about three month back. Ed seemed like a cool dude. |
Re: My new rifle.
not a thing wrong with boots that are not shiny and new, looks like he is a working man

Re: My new rifle.
Gotta mutt upper that did squirrels and chucks at 150-200 yds with little problems when it had a 3x9 on it.
Bump on the bore snake-get several. They are worth the price in spades IMHO. I also put a Ceiner .22 conversion in it and love it. That's how she sits now....been thinking about some 30's for it from Cheaper than Dirt...but....that's what the 10/22 is for. |

American History X and Fight Club is on par for me. I might like X little batter, for no particular reason. |
Re: My new rifle.
Lose the peep sight; you can't see a target in low-light conditions.

I put a little chalk on them to lighten them up in low light. not that I would own a gun or anything like that, but if a friend would ask me some day:smokin::smokin: |
